Why We Sing

Why we sing ..

Today’s contemporary music is quite innovative and luxurious .

A chant, a slang becomes an Anthem as long as it catches the fancy of the audience and resonates with its borders of enjoyment and appetites .

Good enough .

Entertainment is about what is wanted and trendy.

Yet the church must sing for a different reason.

We are singing to and about God .

Jesus .

The Holy Spirit.

The church .

The Work of The Spirit .

The mission of the Gospel .

All praise worthy of God.

It matters less the Music genre .

It should be as less entertaining as possible .

It mustn’t lack healthy and good rhythm and artistry too.

But its fulcrum is scripture .

The themes of scripture must be very loud and louder than the music .

Hence songs must be like teaching sermons.

Theological preachings .

Only difference is this is with music .

They must cause us to meditate on scripture .

Pray ,

Study ,

Preach the gospel ,

Walk in the Spirit,in Holiness ,

Follow the leading of the Spirit ,

Be strong members of the local church.

They mustn’t be bland when it comes to Bible theology and truth and very lively in artistry and sophistry of its music .

That’s inadequate .

Hence church praise worship leaders must be given the same qualifications like the Psalmist(s) who wrote scriptures.

Men filled with the Spirit .

Full of the Word.

Their songs must be sermons or from sermons.

I have always taught that the
Work of a church music ministry/ choir is to turn the church teaching and doctrine and theology into musical notes .

So we walk in the word.

The choir and music ministry mustn’t be notorious for making us get emotional in praise or enhance our danceable performances .

That’s being worldly .

Paul teaches differently

Colossians 3:16 KJV
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

In a world carried away with trends,

We must stick with the word and Spirit alone .

Let there be more content in our songs than

“You have been good to me “
“I know you will see me through “
“It’s my time “
“I no go suffer ,never “

It’s less than scripture

Not the core of worship

And we should not accommodate that much !

Amen
