THE PRAYER OF CONSECRATION

đź“– Sunday, September 21st, 2025

TO THE BIBLE
Luke 22:42 (NKJV) – “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”

Devotional Thought :

The prayer of consecration is not about asking God for things—it’s about surrender. It is the prayer where you yield your will, desires, and plans to God’s perfect will.
Jesus modeled it in the Garden of Gethsemane. Though He deeply desired that the cup of suffering might pass, His ultimate response was: “Nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” That is consecration: aligning yourself completely with God’s purpose, regardless of personal cost.
Unlike the prayer of faith, where you declare what is already yours, the prayer of consecration acknowledges God’s sovereignty and positions you for obedience. It is saying, “Lord, I am Yours—my life, my choices, my future. Use me for Your glory.”
This prayer is crucial for effectiveness in our walk with God. Many want God’s blessing but resist His Lordship. But real power comes when we die to self and live only for Him.
Consecration is not weakness; it is strength under divine authority. It is the prayer that keeps us from drifting into self-will and ensures we remain vessels fit for the Master’s use (2 Timothy 2:21).

WHY THE PRAYER OF CONSECRATION MATTERS

It aligns you with God’s perfect will – ensuring you don’t walk in error.

It crucifies the flesh – breaking selfish ambition and pride.

It produces lasting fruit – because only what is born of God endures.

It positions you for service – God can entrust more to surrendered vessels.

The Apostle Paul prayed this way in Romans 12:1: “…present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”
Consecration is not a one-time act; it is a daily prayer and lifestyle.

CONFESSION

Father, I consecrate my heart, my will, and my entire life to You today. Not my will, but Yours be done in every area of my life. I am set apart for Your purpose, a vessel unto honor, sanctified and fit for Your use. Use me, Lord, for Your glory. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY

Romans 12:1-2 – Present your bodies as a living sacrifice.

2 Timothy 2:21 – A vessel unto honor, sanctified, and fit for the Master’s use.

Luke 22:41-42 – Jesus prays in Gethsemane, yielding to the Father’s will.

ACT

Today, spend time in prayer, surrendering specific areas of your life—career, ministry, family, future—to the Lord. Declare His will as supreme. Write down one area where you need deeper surrender, and yield it to Him in prayer.
