(Prayer as a Tool for Dominion and Inheritance)
TO THE BIBLE
đź“– Joshua 18:3
“And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you?”
LET’S TALK
The journey of Israel into their inheritance under Joshua is more than a historical account—it is a spiritual blueprint for the Church today. God had subdued the land before them. Victories had been won, boundaries had been drawn, and yet, seven tribes remained without their possession. They were passive, hesitant, and content to dwell in comfort, even though inheritance awaited them. Joshua had to shake them out of complacency: “How long will you wait to possess what God has already given you?”
Beloved, the same question echoes to us today. In Christ, all things are already yours (1 Corinthians 3:21). In prayer, you legislate and enforce what grace has already provided. Through the Spirit, the nations have been decreed as our inheritance (Psalm 2:8). Yet many remain hesitant—praying small prayers, thinking locally, while God has already granted them global influence, souls, and territories.
Effective prayer is not begging God to do what He has already done—it is enforcing divine decrees. It is standing in the gap, like Daniel, Elijah, and Paul, and pulling nations into alignment with God’s eternal plan. When you pray for the nations, you are not asking timidly; you are possessing spiritually.
The Apostle Paul demonstrated this when he declared in Romans 1:5: “Through Him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name’s sake.” His prayer life was global in scope. He travailed for nations he had never visited, and when he did arrive, the ground had already been ploughed in the Spirit.
The reason some believers’ prayers lack effectiveness is that they pray only for their needs—food, money, rent, comfort. While these are not wrong, they are too small for a child of God who has been made an heir of the world (Romans 4:13). Effective prayer lifts your eyes from self to nations, from needs to inheritance, from problems to dominion.
The Spirit of God within you is not just for survival; He is for possession, expansion, and dominion. Every time you intercede, you are staking claim over territories. Every time you pray in the Spirit, you are dislodging principalities and setting up divine order. Every prayer meeting, every intercession, every decree is a step into nations God has already given you.
This is why Acts 19:20 says, “So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.” Prayer makes the Word prevail. Prayer subdues territories. Prayer opens doors that men thought were permanently shut. Through effective prayer, nations bow, leaders yield, and hearts are turned to Christ.
Joshua had to remind Israel: “The land is yours—go in and possess it.” Today, the Spirit reminds us: “The nations are yours—possess them through prayer, intercession, and the Gospel.” Don’t delay. Don’t shrink back. The world is waiting for your voice in prayer and your action in obedience.
CONFESSION
I boldly take possession of nations, cities, and territories through effective prayer and Spirit-led intercession. I refuse to be slack, for the Spirit of God empowers me to subdue, to establish, and to enforce God’s kingdom everywhere I go. The nations are my inheritance, and the Word of God through me prevails mightily. Hallelujah!
