(Pray Like The Lord Jesus Did)
TO THE BIBLE
đź“– Luke 11:1
“Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”
Devotional Message :
There was something about Jesus that set Him galaxies apart from the religious order of His day. His words carried life. His presence dispelled fear. But most strikingly, His prayers pierced through the heavens and produced tangible results. While others muttered empty repetitions, Jesus spoke with heaven’s authority, and earth shifted in response.
No wonder the disciples, though raised in a Jewish tradition steeped in prayer routines, could not ignore the profound distinction. They had prayed all their lives. They knew the Psalms, the synagogue prayers, the ritual fasts. But when they saw Jesus pray, they saw answers. They saw a man whose communion with the Father was not ritual but reality, not form but fire. And so, with holy hunger, they asked: “Lord, teach us to pray.”
This request reveals something timeless: true prayer is not learned by culture, tradition, or memorised scripts—it is imparted by revelation. It is not the length of words but the depth of union. Jesus prayed from a place of sonship, not servitude; of dominion, not desperation; of fellowship, not formula. And this is what He came to teach us.
When we read the Gospels and Acts, we find the disciples eventually catching this fire. Peter prayed and the dead rose (Acts 9:40). Paul prayed and prison gates flung open (Acts 16:25–26). The early Church prayed, and buildings shook, nations were touched, kings were influenced, and history was rewritten. Their prayers were not whispers into the void but decrees that aligned with heaven’s will, backed by the Spirit’s power.
Beloved, this is the life Jesus called us into. Prayer is not a religious chore to endure but a holy partnership with God. It is the meeting point of divinity and humanity, where heaven’s will invades earth’s affairs. It is where burdens are lifted, destinies are shaped, and nations are steered.
When you pray like Jesus, you pray with assurance, knowing that the Father hears and answers. You pray in His Name, not as a religious stamp, but as the seal of divine authority. You don’t come as a beggar hoping for crumbs; you come as a son or daughter exercising inheritance rights. This is why your prayers must be bold, specific, Spirit-driven, and Word-soaked.
Prayer becomes effective when you understand it is not just about speaking to God, but also partnering with Him. It is where the Word, the Spirit, and your voice converge to produce undeniable results.
GO DEEPER
đź“– Mark 11:24
Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
📖 John 14:13–14
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
📖 1 John 5:14–15
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
SPEAK
My prayers are not empty words but divine decrees. They are saturated with the Spirit’s power and the authority of Jesus’ Name. As I pray, things shift, answers manifest, lives are transformed, and God’s glory is revealed through me. I am an agent of divine change.
ACT
Right now, set aside time to pray in the Spirit. Don’t rush. Don’t be casual. Yield fully to Him and let the Spirit guide you into heaven’s language and God’s perfect will.
